This model of Tom Rolt is consisted of 5 parts the main body, front buffer beam & cylinders, pony truck, smokebox door and cab roof. Numbered 7 in the roster, Tom Rolt entered service in 1991 and is the Talyllyn Railway's most recent and most powerful steam engine to be added to the fleet and has proven itself to be a valuable addition. The locomotive was names after the railway's general manager, Tom LTC Rolt known for his popular book, 'Railway Adventure'. Talyllyn Railway No.Tom Rolt started life as a 3ft gauge Andrew Barclay 0-4-0WT, built for the Irish turf board in 1949, it was rebuilt from the ground up and converted to 2ft 3in gauge by John Bate and his fellow engineers at Pendre works.
